David's a classic and went for the Whopper but I was intrigued by the "Chicken, Apple & Cranberry Garden Fresh Salad." Our local restaurant (?) actually forgot to put the chicken on originally, so we waited while a fresh breast was grilled and the rest of the salad was painstakingly assembled. We were also awarded with a Hershey's pie for our wait :)
Our Chicken, Apple & Cranberry Garden Fresh Salad perfectly blends seven premium lettuces, crisp apples, sweet dried cranberries, and crumbly blue cheese.
Served with KEN’S® Apple Cider Vinaigrette and topped with your choice of juicy TENDERCRISP® or TENDERGRILL® chicken.
Spring mix, sweetened dried cranberries, blue cheese, apple slices, chicken breast (Tendercrisp or Tendergrill - your choice)
They were NOT PLAYING about the blue cheese. I can stomach most foods, and consider myself to be a pretty adventurous eater but blue cheese is one thing I can't stand. And it was everywhere. Plus, due to my freshly grilled chicken being put on the salad while still piping hot, I had extra melty blue cheese. I actually no idea that blue cheese melts, but it does. Trust me.
Thankfully, the salad artist at Burger King wasn't only heavy handed with the cheese (gag). My salad had copious amounts of cranberries and apples (which come from the kids meal sides) to compliment my hot chicken and a nice little spring mix.
The dressing, Ken's Apple Cider Vinaigrette, was surprisingly delicious, as well. I happen to love apple cider vinegar, but the sweet tang was a nice compliment to the crispy apples, sweet cranberries and (have I mentioned it was hot?) chicken. There is so much going on in the salad that a little bit of dressing goes a long way.
Eh...the blue cheese really threw me off of this one. Not only is blue cheese disgusting (in my humble opinion), it also significantly takes away from the nutrition this salad provides. However, there are much worse salad options out there and the chunks of apple and cranberry pieces add a nice texture and flavor contrast. I'd buy it again but probably not anytime soon, and definitely without the cheese.
