Tel Aviv, Israel

August 7-8, 2014

Going to Tel Aviv was sort of an accident. After noticing someone else mentioned something about taking the 747 turn, I couldn't get the idea out of my mind. How many other chances will I have to ride in Business Elite on a 747, especially as they are being retired?

Initially, there were the obvious safety concerns. There are a lot of empty seats on the Tel Aviv flight because...the flight is only just unrestricted, and even more recently allowing non-revs. A cease fire was declared, but that didn't seem to convince anyone but me that I'd be safe.

So, I bailed and went to Dublin instead. Fantastic trip. You can read more about 24 hour adventure here.

When I got back to JFK after Dublin, I had a really tough time getting back in to Atlanta. So, I spent a lot of time trying to decide where to go next. I texted friends all over the country to see if anyone wanted a last-minute visitor, and found a few options. But Tel Aviv still lurked in the back of my mind. As I sat in the JFK SkyClub contemplating my next move, I struck up a conversation with the man sitting next to me. I can make small talk with a brick wall.

Where was he going? TEL AVIV. This was my sign, so I listed myself, told a few select people my new plans, and waited on my midnight flight to Israel.

I've been on a lot of planes, but this boarding process was unlike anything I've experienced. After we went through the initial boarding process, we were shuffled through a replica of the TSA screening we all already underwent before entering the terminal. But once we were on the plane....oh glorious day!
Having just come off a Business Elite flight to Dublin, I was afraid I wouldn't be as impressed with the 747 BE accommodations as I was hoping. WRONG. This place was amazing! Everyone had their own little cubby hole with the requisite bedding, RON kit, water and mimosa waiting happily for my use. There was so much to be excited for - my lay-flat bed, the giant TV, all the movies I would be watching, all the sleeping I would catch up on, and all the food I would be stuffing my face with. This was an anxiety attack of the very best kind.

Look at all these cute little pods! Since eating took up the majority of this flight, and talking about movies or sleep is not very exciting, the next bit of this post will concentrate on all the delectable goodies...
